2015 Audi Q5 Car Review
We got used to the way Audi designs their cars. Clean, elegant and subtle. The 2015 Audi Q5 is no exception, with the Audi trademark grill, LED surrounded headlights on the front and the same simple conservative lines across the side rear of the vehicle. Nothing flashy or vulgar spoils the overall looks of this simplistic yet very stylish medium sized crossover.
Unlike most of its competition, Audi gives the potential buyer five different choices in terms of engines. These choices start with two petrol engines, a 2.0 liter inline 4 turbocharged petrol engine developing 220 bhp and 258 lb-ft which will do 23 mpg (combined). Next, a 3.0 liter supercharged V6, which will push the power output to 272 bhp and 295 lb-ft of torque and will do 21 mpg. If none of these engines sound appealing, there’s also the 3.0 liter TDI diesel V6 which produces 240 bhp and a whooping 428 lb-ft (27 mpg) or a more environmentally friendly 2.0 liter turbocharged hybrid engine, developing a combined power of 245 bhp and 350 lb-ft (26 mpg). And finally, for the more performance orientated 2015 Audi Q5 drivers, Audi offers a very powerful SQ5 3.0 liter supercharged V6 petrol version, with different camshafts, different compression ratio, bigger injectors, bigger boost from the supercharger, free-flowing exhaust. It’s an engine which will put 354 bhp and 346 lb-ft at your disposal, but for a less economical fuel consumption of 19 mpg.
By default, all of these engines are mated to a very efficient 8 speed automatic transmission sending power to all wheels, so you get an all wheel drive Quattro system as a standard. Again, a plus for the 2015 Audi Q5, as the standard AWD is not something you can find on all the competition.
Although this is not the average farmer tool, you’ll be pleased to know that all Q5’s, regardless of the engine, can tow as much as 4,400 lbs including the hybrid, just in case you need it. This is well above the usual 3,500 lbs average benchmark in this segment and more to the point, if you look at something like a Lexus NX Hybrid, you’ll see it has n0 towing capabilities, the manufacturer recommending that you shouldn’t tow anything with it at all.
On the interior, you’ll find everything you’ve come to expect from an Audi. Fine attention to details, acres of leather, soft touch plastic, stylish chrome accents and wood. The electrically adjustable front seats are both firm and comfortable, and even the rear seats offer more than enough leg room and head room for most adults. Strong build quality and top materials have been an Audi trademark for a while now, so no wonder the 2015 Audi Q5 feels a lot more like a premium sedan than a sport utility vehicle.
The base price for this classy crossover is $38,000 and it includes as standard Bluetooth, leather upholstery, 10 speaker sound system, IPod connectivity, heated mirrors, electrically adjustable seats, climate control for three zones, and Sirius satellite radio with SD card slot. Should you feel the need for some extra optionals, Audi offers almost anything you could ask for, including Internet connectivity, Google Earth mapping, adaptive cruise control and the list could continue for a while. Just prepare the wallet, as a fully loaded 2015 Audi Q5 will easily go above the $50,000 mark.
