2015 Hyundai Elantra – Wonderful entry level sedan
As a cheap compact sedan, the Hyundai Elantra evolved on the market in 2010. Being closely related with the European small compact hatchback i30 – the one called Elantra GT in the States, the 2015 Hyundai Elantra brought courageous design inspired by Hyundai’s most recent design philosophy called the Fluidic Sculpture. Bringing the lines sculpted by the best Hyundai car designers, the Hyundai Elantra simply invaded the market as a modern, prolific entry sedan which had much more appeal in comparison to any Elantra before. Now, after four years on the market, Hyundai released the 2015 Hyundai Elantra which remained much the same as the 2014 model but with some slight changes to the option levels. However, the 2014 model year car was adequately modernized and the one on sale now remains fully prepared to tackle even the latest additions to the segment.
With its elongated wheelbase of 106.3 inches and a smartly designed sedan body, the Elantra became roomy despite getting the class leading aerodynamic coefficient of 0.28 cD. This means that the engine installed sips less fuel, the Elantra can achieve higher top speeds and the overall efficiency of the car has risen dramatically in comparison with all other previous generation. Thanks to these advantages, the Elantra became the North American Car of the Year in 2012 and sales were strong despite the scandal related to official fuel consumption values released by the company. Nevertheless, the 2015 Hyundai Elantra was significantly updated for 2014 model year. It received updated trim levels, bigger options list, modified dashboard, a few new touches on the outside and a slightly retuned suspension. All of this meant that the Elantra, with its updated infotainment system and a bit more equipment in the base trim, could stack up with the new cars in the class. Even now, with a 1.8-liter 145 HP base engine, the Elantra can hit 60 in less than 10 seconds while providing fuel efficiency values of 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Obviously, that is not the best value in the class, but it is not bad either.
Thanks to a sport tuned suspension and a more powerful engine with a Sport Trim (two liter petrol engine producing 173 HP), the Elantra is rather interesting and engaging compact sedan to drive. It is not impressive as hot hatches, but it offers rather nice driving experience, which will be cherished by the passengers the most. According to independent reviewers, the 2015 Hyundai Elantra is a comfortable car with exceptional NVH values, roomy cabin (at least for those at the front) and impressive base equipment list. Of course, reaching for the higher up trims will jack up the price, but then again, the Elantra can be equipped with advanced safety equipment, impressive infotainment system, rear view camera, etc.
All in all, the 2015 Hyundai Elantra is a rather nice looking entry level sedan whose’s low price-tag, fuel efficient aluminium base engine and nicely equipped interior provide all the necessities the usual US drivers searches for. Our pick would be the Sport version. It looks a bit more sporty, it has a more powerful but similarly fuel efficient engine and it comes with more standard equipment.
