2015 Kia Cee’d Is Modernized And Improved
Revealed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 2015 Kia Cee’d and the 2015 Kia Pro_Cee’d showed their improved, slightly revised and modernized face for the first time. True, not everyone will notice the exterior changes. They are rather minuscule with Kia designers only redesigning the bumpers and the grill. The grill is a bit slimmer now. It is far better incorporated with the new front bumper now graced with simpler, straight lines and much more prominent side panels which host fog lights. Much the same changes hit the three-door Pro_Cee’d as well as the stylish wagon.
Continuing at the back, the 2015 Kia Cee’d is more or less the same as before. The rear bumper is changed, the car has a new set of alloys, but overall, the styling and the character of all three versions remained the same. What did not remain the same is the tech underneath the front bonnet. The engines are changed. OK, Kia did not literally develop five new engines for the redesigned Cee’d, but they did introduce a rather interesting one-liter ecoTurbo engine with power outputs of 98 hp and 118 hp. Small three cylinder, created in Namyang R&D center in Korea to lower the average CO2 emissions, is paired with an all new dual clutch transmission. With the start/stop tech integrated as standard, the new small engine (which powers the Hyundai i20 and the i30 as well) is one of the most frugal and most eco-friendly engines ever produced.
Of course, Kia likewise improved other engines. The company’s 1.6L CRDi diesel engine – one of the most popular in Europe had its power increased from 126 to 134 hp. More importantly, the CO2 emissions are reduced by a healthy margin to 109 g/km. Alike the one liter turbocharged petrol engine, the larger and more powerful diesel is also available with a new dual clutch transmission. Finally, turbocharged 1.6L engines for the Cee’d GT and the Pro_Cee’d GT were also slightly modified which enabled the sporty hatches to reach 62 in 7.6 seconds – a bit faster than before.
Once you step inside the cabin you will notice almost the same interior as before. The only notable change is visible on the higher-spec models where an all new seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, taken from the Sportage, shows signs of improvement. This infotainment center has Bluetooth connection, USB reader, TomTom Connected Services, DAB Radio and many other things. Obviously, Kia wanted to offer a complete package to follow up on the offerings from other brands – such as Mazda with the new 3, Ford with the Focus, Vauxhall with the Astra and so on.
The 2015 Kia Cee’d received a fairly comprehensive redesign. Even though its exterior design remained almost the same as before, changes on the inside and under the bonnet certainly made the car a bit more upscale0. To seal the deal with improvements, Kia even changed some active and passive safety features. The brakes are a tad bigger on GT high-performance models, suspension and chassis are returned in order to reduce NVH levels, and the blind spot monitoring is also new. And yes, rear lights LEDs certainly make it look far more high-end than before.
