2015 Mitsubishi Space Star Is A Small Car Alternative To The 500, The Aygo, The Micra And Others
Some know it as the Mirage, while the Europeans call it the Space Star. This is Mitsubishi’s small city car created to compete with the likes of the Nissan Micra, the Fiat 500 and other similar cars. Unfortunately, this one does not have the presence or the character of the Fiat 500, but Mitsubishi tried to make it more advanced and more economical than any other car in the segment. In an effort to create the most fuel-efficient car, the Space Star received high-end aerodynamics lowering its drag coefficient to rather astonishing 0.27 Cd for some versions. Also, this is one of the lightest cars in the segment. In fact, the Mitsubishi Mirage is available in the US as well and it is rated as the lightest four-door car on the market. That is quite an achievement which made it possible for Mitsubishi to integrate the smallest engines it has.
Taking into account that the largest and most powerful engine is actually a 1.2L three cylinder with 78 hp and 74 lb-ft of torque, the Mirage has been one of the most ecofriendly vehicles on the market. Even some independent researchers called it the greenest non-hybrid vehicle in the world which is a high praise for sure. On the other hand, low weight, small engines, and small footprint do not add up to an appealing car. It lacks sexiness of small handsome cars from Europe and it definitely lacks the character even the trio from Toyota, Citroen and Peugeot (the Aygo, the C1 and the 108) has.
Revealed in 2012 as a renamed Colt, the new 2015 Mitsubishi Space Star measures 146.1 inches in length, 65.6 inches in width and 58.7 inches in height. As a small city car it gains only the basic equipment, but even with it, the Space Star moves along with electric power steering, automatic climate control, power windows, CD/mp3 player and even a USB reader for the better-equipped versions.
2014 saw the reveal of an all-new redesigned version which had a bit more refined exterior look now translated for the 2015 Mitsubishi Space Star as well. While the entry level car boosts ice amenities, the top-notch version brings the Space Star a bit closer to the best performing small cars in Europe. For the top end version, Mitsubishi adds 14-inch alloys, a leather package on the inside, start/stop system for the engine, cruise control, and handy Bluetooth hands-free system.
As with all other small cars, the 2015 Mitsubishi Space Star is not only available with a manual. Mitsubishi developed a version packed with the CVT transmission and the so-called Idle Neutral Logic system. More or less, this system makes it possible for the CVT to go neutral when the car is stationary thus reducing fuel consumption and relieving the engine of unnecessary stress.
