The 2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S

The 2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S continue the strong tradition of brilliant sports cars with style and usability. Of particular relevance is the all-new roofing technology: no longer is it a manual process to bring down the roof, it is done at the push of a button. The advanced technology will only work when the car is stopped, but this slight concern pales in comparison to the way it does it, moving the engine cover out of the way and lowering the roof behind. The fixed B-pillar loops add to the appeal, reminiscent of the original Targa.

The 2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S are naturally four-wheel drive, using the same technology as found in the other 911’s – technology proven to provide greater comfort, handling and acceleration. The 4 stocks the standard 3.4 liter flat six, producing a wonder 350 HP; the Targa 4S – on the other hand – takes advantage of the 3.8 liter to produce 400 HP. They are engines that produce relative 0-62 MPH (100 km/h) of 5.0 and 4.2 seconds . There are two gearboxes available: either a 7-speed manual, or the usual, 7-speed PDK ‘box, allowing both manual and automatic shifting. The advances in recent years in their ability to lower their environmental impact has resulted in the 4 and 4S having a claimed 10 l/100 km (23.5 mpg) and 9.2 l/100 km (25.4 mpg) in the manual and PDK transmissions respectively. CO2 emissions are at 237 g/km and 214 g/km respectively.

Inside, there exists the usual comfort and style from Porsche, although there are less buttons around the center console than expected. The Porsche entertainment system is world class and has all the latest accessories, including (but not limited to) an advanced stereo system and integrated phone/Bluetooth support. Climate control, park assist and cruise control all assist in the driver’s day to day activities, allowing them to focus simply upon the pure joy of driving such a lovely vehicle. Everything is further voice controlled, removing any distractions from the driver – in fact, when coupled with the PDK automatic gearbox, there is little if any need to remove your hands from the steering wheel of the car! The seats are fully supportive (front and rear) to assist drivers and passengers when dealing with the sort of corners this car can handle at ease.

The 2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4 and Targa 4S are definitive extensions of Porsche’s renowned excellence, coupled with the pure joy of roofless cars.
