The 2015 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Is A Proud Italian Creation Of Pure Excitement And Madness

Apart from the engine in the limited edition LaFerrari (which is outsold), the engine in the 2015 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine Ferrari ever produced. And yes, it gives the F12 Berlinetta performance to be reckoned with. So what is the 2015 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta!?

Speaking solely of numbers it is not hard to acknowledge that the F12 is the flagship of Ferrari. It has the biggest most powerful engine, it has the biggest dimensions of most of Ferraris built and it is a car that can compete head to head with a car such as the Lamborghini Murcielago. Being a Ferrari Grand Tourer means that the F12 Berlinetta had to be big, comfortable and fast. However, the sheer size of the thing did not trick the Ferrari engineers who succeeded to keep the weight down to only 3.362 lbs. That is something that is hard to believe when knowing that the F12 is a car powered by a 6.3 liter V12 and measuring more than 181 inches in length. However, the alloys and composite materials used for construction kept the weight down, and, more importantly, were shaped in such a way to provide the 2015 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta with magnificent aerodynamics.

For example, the aerodynamics flaps on the exterior are active in providing top notch aerodynamic characteristics at all times. When the brakes are hot the flaps at the front are open to let air cool the brakes, but if cold air is not needed than the flaps are closed making the car more slippery. What’s more, air is tunneled through channels on the bonnet and through a gap on each side of the car thus enabling the car to be somehow cocooned into some kind of air bubble. This results in better aerodynamics and more speed of course. After all, active aerodynamics provides a wonderful down force. It is estimated that the aerodynamic package provides down force of 260 lbs at 120 mph (which are achievable by this car in less than 8.5 seconds).

Even though the looks are clearly shaped in order to provide the best possible aerodynamics, we have to say that the car looks astonishingly appealing. The same story goes for the inside where a classic modern Ferrari layout sits. It is nice to know that every single element on the inside can be made to specific wishes of the buyers and as with almost any car of this kind (and price) every one is a unique expression of car perfection.

Same praises can be said for the engine. Developing 730 HP and 509 lb ft of torque, the engine is located at the front in the middle which provides perfect weight balance. Connected with the rear wheel drive through double clutch gearbox, the engine can propel this monster to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and to top speed of 211 mph. That is not as ferocious as the Lambo Murcielago, but we know for a fact that Ferrari is rather conservative when publishing official performance data. We are certain it’ll go to 60 in less than 3 seconds.

All in all, the 2015 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is one of Ferrari’s all-time greats and things will be such until a new Ferrari Grand tourer hits the roads.
