The 2015 Lexus NX 200t Is The First Non-F Lexus That Brings A Bit Of “F” To Drivers
As one of the most flamboyant compact SUVs, the Lexus NX definitely represents an all-new interpretation of the Lexus L-Finesse styling philosophy, which slowly, but surely leads the Lexus brand out of the “boring” zone and into the unexplored territories of fun and enjoyment. The 2015 Lexus NX brings one more interesting thing apart from the flamboyant exterior. This is the first Lexus ever to be powered by a turbocharged engine. Actually, Toyota ditched turbocharged engines back at the start of the 2000s and with the 2015 Lexus NX 200t they are bringing them back.
You ask, should you be excited about the newest Lexus which is powered by a turbocharged engine!? Frankly, it seems that you should be because this is the ultimate representation of the modern and funky Lexus we’ve only seen before when they’ve revealed their F-vehicles such as the LFA or the IS-F. Obviously, the NX200t follows the footsteps of the older sporty brothers but it brings all the excitement and glamour in much more sensible package in form of a compact SUV.
Fitting just inside the compact SUV rulebook, the 2015 Lexus NX 200t features all the things you expect to have. Nice and cozy interior is at the top of the list of things that Lexus wanted to make as perfect as possible, so the integration of advanced entertainment system, a touchpad, as well as the best possible sound insulation, most pleasing seats and seating upholstery and rather nicely done dashboard and instrument panel, which makes the driver a bit more involved and more important than in previously built Lexus vehicles.
The space inside is basically what you could expect from a compact SUV. It’s not actually a limo at the back, but the passengers shouldn’t be complaining a lot about it. However, all the bells and whistles we are accustomed to from Lexus built vehicles are here and it is still rather familiar atmosphere on the inside regardless of the changed look of many elements. The driver, however, will be much more focused on the driving as the NX 200t finally received an engine that will be able to keep it on pair with the best premium offerings in the segment.
With 235 HP and 258 lb ft of torque, the engine is a nice performer with decent fuel consumption of 21/28 mpg and with enough punch to launch the 4.050 lbs car to 60 mph in seven seconds flat. That is fairly impressive for a car that is not exactly a hot-hatch. The engine is definitely something that will be massively appreciated by the driver. As the car is based upon the last generation Toyota RAV4, integration of the turbocharged engine in the 2015 Lexus NX 200t meant that buyers will be able to opt only for the one transmission – six speed automatic. That, of course isn’t a bad thing as the automatic used here is a well sorted unit which will give almost seamless gear changes regardless of conditions.
All in all, the 2015 Lexus NX 200t is a thoroughly modern car which brings a lot of accessories from the high-end Lexus cars, but keeps the price at check thanks to its close ties with Toyota vehicles. Of course, the engine in it is a novelty for Lexus drivers, but its pleasing character will certainly be appreciated.
