The 2015 Maserati GranCabrio Is Old But As Beautiful As Ever
Many think of it as it is the best-looking car in the world. Maserati hit gold when they’ve re-introduced it in 2007 and despite its rather questionable sports credentials, the GranTurismo was simply too beautiful not to be continued. The entire motoring world wanted only one thing to happen – that the GranTurismo loses its roof. Luckily, back in 2010, that is exactly what happened and the Maserati GranCabrio (or the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible as it is known in America) was born. Again, sports credentials and the performance simply wasn’t that important here. It looked the business and it definitely stole more than a few buyers from the Audi R8 who was its main counterpart regardless of the size difference.
Now, for the 2015 model year, the Maserati GranTurismo and the GranCabrio are still marching on largely thanks to their looks and not to their performance. As the end of the life cycle is fast approaching, Maserati isn’t updating the car every year. The last time these two got a proper makeover (if you could call it that) was back in 2013 when the GranCabrio MC Stradale and the GranCabrio Sport were unveiled. For 2015, everything stayed the same, meaning that the GranCabrio continued to ride on with the aggressive front bumper with powerful and dominant side air intakes. The blackened front lights with the expressive Maserati exclusive front grille successfully round up the exclusive and upscale look of the most popular Maserati.
Apart from slight and subtle changes on the outside, the 2015 Maserati GranCabrio still uses an outdated infotainment system, but thanks to the efforts of Italian designers the inside still looks and feels fresh and premium. Quilted leather upholstery with special aluminum or carbon fiber inserts makes an exquisite ambiance on the inside. If you really let your imagination roam wild and your bank account dry, the Maserati GranCabrio Sport can have such an incredible interior you’d be tempted to open the roof and drive with it down even when raining. Craftsmanship of the Italian leather smiths and art of the designers is smartly presented throughout the cabin. The cabin can really be a remarkable sight despite being old as a first grader.
The engine isn’t new. Although it sounds like it is filled with fury, these days the 4.7 liter V8 with 460 HP (10 more than before) and with 383 lb ft of torque is almost obsolete in this class. The 2015 Maserati GranCabrio can reach 62 mph in 4.9 seconds which isn’t exactly fast for a car that looks this good and this beautiful. Think about it, even the hot hatches of today are faster.
Despite of its outdated propulsion and somewhat old elements in the cabin, the 2015 Maserati GranCabrio is one of the most beautiful cars in the world. It’ll still be one of the all-time greats even when a new version comes. Buying this piece of machinery will always let you in a special group of people who value aesthetics and style. And money simply cannot buy that.
